Platinum Facts
Platinum used in jewellery is hallmarked 950 which means that the metal used in your
platinum rings is 95% platinum and 5% some other alloy for example Ruthenium.
This metal is corrosion-resistant, is difficult to tarnish, and in fact it’s one of the
hardest materials to be used in jewellery and should you need them resizing a lazer
will be needed to bond the new ends together. In addition it has excellent
high-temperature characteristics, and stable electrical properties.
Platinum does not oxidise in the air at any temperature.
These characteristics make this metal ideal for jewellery
which is generally worn constantly. Platinum is more precious than gold.
The price changes along with its availability,
but it normally costs slightly less than twice the price of gold,
which explains the difference in prices with the two metals.
